The children began to
have a strong interest in the moon phases beginning in October. One
of their favorite stories was "Ghost Eye Tree" and the scary "eye"
of the tree was actually the moon.
We were also
beginning our study of space then, so it was natural that we would
study the moon. We began by charting the phases of the moon. Using
the Virtual Moon Phases web site, I copied and printed the moon
photo along with the date. The children helped me arrange them on
the bulletin board and label them with the name of the phase.
We also investigated Internet
resources, literary sources, to look more closely at all the moon
features. The children completed scientific drawings of the moon.
Finally, we created our own Moonscapes with craters out of plaster
of Paris.
The
photos below will document our Moon study. |
